Sialon

McDanel Advanced Ceramic Technologies LLC SiAlON ST is an alloy of silicon nitride and aluminum oxide. This superior refractory material has the combined properties of silicon nitride (high strength, hardness, fracture toughness and low thermal expansion) and aluminum oxide (corrosion resistance, refractoriness and oxidation resistance). Traditional refractory products can be used only in high temperature applications where one or two of the following properties are required: thermal shock resistance, mechanical strength, corrosion resistance, abrasion resistance or electrical insulation. McDanel Advanced Ceramic Technologies LLC SiAlON ST combines high levels of these properties in one refractory material.

SiAlON ST is uniquely qualified for non-ferrous molten metal applications and high wear or high stress environments up to 1250°C. SiAlON ST is non-wetting for most non-ferrous metals. It is gas-tight, chemically inert, resistant to corrosion and features high strength, hardness and thermal shock resistance.

Grades Typical Uses Data Sheets
SiAlON ST Good for molten metal applications, high wear or high impact environments up to 1250°C. It is non-wetting for most nonferrous metals, gas tight, chemically inert, resistant to corrosion and metal attack and features high strength hardness and thermal shock resistance.
